Another war, more spending for war, conventional… and nuclear. The US is top of the world in war spending and the US president now wants 50% more for the War Department. Truth is, we have a need to know the deeper costs of war ….
The United States and Israel’s launch of war against Iran comes with costs larger than those displayed in traditional accounting practices.
Consider, with US military moves in the Mideast, how China and the Russian Federation now will view the validity of their geopolitical positions against Taiwan and Ukraine.
Consider US escalation of nuclear weapons development, publicly announced use of AI, and collapse of nuclear weapons control agreements, how China and Russia view their own nuclear weapons escalation that has led to a new nuclear arms race.
And, as another example, consider how costly and difficult it is to walk back spiraling war budgeting and spending and how 2026/2027 is ramping up speed and momentum, a trajectory in an out of control ‘calculus of war’.
Consider, as a postscript, a voice from a check out line in Florida as a clerk comments on artificial intelligence in the headlines —
“If you put a robot in charge, watch out”…
The quip came as the groceries were being bagged and someone mentioned that soon “AI will be in charge of nukes”….
Even regular folks are talking about what’s happening with AI. This as the top man at the Pentagon is demanding complete authority over how AI is used and other law enforcement is signing on to AI use from DNA to biometrics, from GPS and cell phone tracking to access to digital records from birth til death. It’s not a secret that unlocking authoritarian power is in ‘big data’ (ask China and Russia). Surveillance of citizens via “Big Data” is an AI specialty, identifying, monitoring of anyone and everyone and…. now with a shift we watch as AI is being planned to insert into the next gen nuclear weapons command systems.
